I need to move to Boston in a couple months, where is best and safest to rent? Will work be easy to find?
I am 20 and working at the moment, but the season for my job will be over soon. I need to make a new start somewhere, I should have around $15k to move and start somewhere else with. I would love to move near Boston. Will work be difficult to find? will a place to rent be hard to find? will my age effect my ability to rent a place? and where is a safe, nice place to live? -thanks, Griff

in boston safe and affordable are 2 differant things.you can get a studio in dorchester ,roxbury ,or mattapan for around 900 per month.90 % of our murders accure in these 3 villages of boston. if you move north or south rent goes up exponentialy.try saugus on the north shore.if you go west to the framingham area your looking at 1000 per but outragous tolls if you work inthe city[ i used to pay 80 a week just on tolls]work? we are the only state losing population for a reason.
Answer 2 :
No doubt about, rents in the city are expensive unless you have roommates. I do think your age might be a deterrent for renting, unless you just rent a room from someone. What kind of job? Boston is not inexpensive to live. You have to figure transportation costs, job salary. Some places are less expensive, but not real safe. Try getting a local newspaper. or go to Boston.com and search around the area a bit. Good luck
Answer 3 :
Maybe a good way to start would be to rent a room in a house outside of the city and near public transportation. Driving into Boston is expensive. Then you could scope out jobs etc. and not be locked into a lease. There are jobs, but it depends on what you do.
Answer 4 :
Jamaica Plains
Answer 5 :
Try getting an Apartment in Somerville or Cambridge both are at least 5min outside Boston and T accessable. They are both safe much safer than any other places. You will have trouble finding a job, because I am 26 lived here in Boston all my life and even I am having job finding trouble. When getting an apartment make sure you can afford rent because it can be expensive. one bedrooms can go from $800 on up. Try and get a roommate if you can. Hope that helps you.
Answer 6 :
You should definitely consider living with roommates -- Boston is very expensive (1BR apartments start around $1200). It's not hard to find a place to rent, as long as your expectations are realistic. Your age won't necessarily be an issue, but most landlords will want to run a credit check and will request proof of income (most younger people in the city are students and have parents who co-sign / guarantee their leases because of this). If you aren't working, or are working a job where you don't make enough to pay your rent, that could limit your options.
