About live in Boston, work in Beverly

Live in Boston, work in Beverly?
I am planning to relocate to MA for a job in Beverly, and was wondering how feasible it is to live in or around Boston and commute to work. I feel it's the best way to enjoy Boston life, but what's a reasonable compromise considering traffic and daily commute? Also looking for affordability.

Answer 1 :
Well Beverly is on the North Shore about 30 miles north of Boston, and it would be a reverse commute, but you will still hit quite a bit of traffic coming back into the city after work. Yes it would be great to live in Boston, but I don't think its necessarily feasible, you'll pay more for rent, you may have difficulty with parking. I think you might be better off living in Stoneham or Wakefield, for a nice happy medium. 93 can be a nightmare, and you are looking at a commute of 45-1 hour to get to work during rush hour, even with the reverse commute. As I mentioned above, it will be much more affordable to live outside of the city. Edit: Hank I did read the question, and your constant harping on my answers is getting a little old. I interpreted the question to be how feasible would it be to live in Boston and commute to Beverly to work. While I appreciate that there is a commuter rail train that goes from Boston to Beverly, doing a reverse commute using the train out of the city can be exceedingly difficult because most stations outside of Boston do not offer any additional transportation to get from the station to your place of employment. I am simply suggesting that it will likely be easier to live somewhere halfway because visiting the city and enjoying all it has to offer is a probably a better and cheaper option than living directly in it. Especially because the most commonly used route by car would be 93N to 128N, and that is a high traffic area regardless of which direction you are going. That's my opinion and my interpretation of the question, you are more than welcome to have your own opinion, but continuing to suggest that I have no idea what I'm talking about is getting more than a little annoying. You are not the only one from the area, people are allowed to have other interpretations and opinions even if they don't agree with yours.
Answer 2 :
Beverly has 5 Mbta Commuter rail stations that operates to and from North Station the train ride takes about 35 Minutes. Just go to MBTA.com and click on schedules and maps, go to Commuter Rail and click on Newburyport/Rockport Line for the schedule to and from Beverly or North Station
Answer 3 :
The commute is the problem - traffic is really bad commuting into Boston..., depending on where you find a place to live, you'd want to see where the T station is relative to your commute. Beverly is nice...and you could take the T into Boston...
Answer 4 :
Financereg should train herself to read questions more closely -- it seems to me you stated that definitely you wish the richness of in-city life. That said, as gabe notes there is frequent train service between Boston and Beverly so if your job is near one of the stations you are in luck. And if you drive the traffic for the reverse commute is not so bad; the delay is more due to the fact that there is no freeway between Boston and Beverly; one has to either wind a bit to the north to get onto fast roads or suffer slow traffic through Salem and Lynn.
Answer 5 :
Beverly is off of Rt 128, and from Boston the simple drive is 93N to 128N. If you are too far south, you will hit a lot of traffic on 93, if you're too far West, you'll hit a lot of traffic getting to 93. The section of 95/128 is slow during rush hour. Under perfect conditions, it can be done in about 35 minutes, but typically it's a 60 minute drive. The other option is to take Route 1 from Boston. You can also take the commuter rail to Beverly, if your job is close to one of the stations (but to be honest, that's unlikely - the commuter rail is much more useful for commuting into Boston). If affordability is a real concern, Boston might not be practical. It's expensive, and even more so if you have a car. You might consider Somerville, Malden, or Medford -- all very close to Boston, accessible to 93 and north of the worst traffic. Revere, Chelsea, and East Boston similarly are close and accessible to Route 1. Lynn, Swampscott, Nahant and Salem are between Boston and Beverly. Swampscott, Nahant, and Salem are the only cities of all those that have a suburban feel.
Answer 6 :
Well if you are going to be working in Beverly then i suggest you live in either Peabody, Melrose, Danver, Burlington, Woburn, Malden, Reading, North Reading as these are all cities North of Boston and your commute would be much easier and faster.

you could say "i dont, your pizza is terrible and the pay sucks" but you will probably fail the assignment. bosses like to see stupid answers, like " because of the advancement opportunities and flexible hours. there are no advancement opportunities and flexible hours means you work when they say, but it is the answer they want to hear.

Well, I don't. Maybe you don't either. Do you? If you do, why? Write that down.

About where can you work in Boston as an Australian

Where can you work in Boston as an Australian?
Are there Australian companies or firms that hire their countrymen, helping them to obtain a work visa? I've seen much written that it is a long and hard process without definate results to obtain a working visa to the States or to Australia, for those who have tried or been through it, what are your thoughts on this? Has anyone had any luck finding teaching jobs as a non-resident?

usually if you live in a city and in a high rise building they put one dish up and just send a lead to your apartment its really complicated but that's what they do they have one Receiver for each channel and sent it to you on one line or they might amplify the signal from the dish to your apt and give you a Receiver . either way its all good

About how does the train/subway system work in Boston

How does the train/subway system work in Boston?
I'm new to Boston and not really sure how the train system works. Can someone please explain what people mean when they say "red line, orange line, green line and blue line"? Also, if I were to commute to Boston everyday, what would be the cheapest option for me? I mean is there a monthly pass that I could purchase? Thank you in advance for your replies.
Boston - 6 Answers

Answer 1 :
I used to live in Boston.. so, here goes.. Red Line.. goes pretty much everywhere... and Fenway park... and fanuel hall... places like that... Blue Line... aquarium and some places near the harbor Green line.. science museum and that part of the city... its the oldest line... orange line.. dunno where that one goes, never had to ride it... and the purple is the commuter rail that runs to different cities.. basically.. the colors just make it easier to get where you want to go.. if u have a general idea there are maps EVERYWHERE! It's pretty hard to get lost... and people are more than happy to help you.. You can purchase monthly passes... that all gets sort of confusing.. the cheapest way to commute would probably be the commuter rail... Im not sure though, because it depends on where you are commuting from... Hope I could help a little!
Answer 2 :
There are monthly passes available and for frequent riders the cheaper option. The different lines are color coded, with "purple" being the commuter rail system that connects some outlying towns to Boston. Your best bet to start familiarizing yourself with "what goes where" would be to examine this map: http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/system_map/ All the lines interconnect at different places so you may ride more than one or a combination of bus, subway and/or trolley (light-rail). The Green Line is a trolley or light-rail line. Blue, Orange and Red lines are heavy-rail "subway" type vehicles (with the exception of a short portion of the Red Line from Ashmont to Mattapan that is a trolley line using "heritage" PCC trolleys). The Silver Line is "Bus Rapid Transit" (although it's design doesn't allow it to be as rapid as it should be, but I digress...). In general, Red line tends to be Southeasterly to Northwesterly. Blue line is downtown/northeasterly. Orange line tends to be north/south, and the Green line tends to be downtown/westerly. Commuter rail is a subject unto itself. Just some "for instances" Fenway Park = Green Line. Harvard University = Red Line, Logan Airport = Blue Line or Silver Line. TD Bank Garden = Green, Orange, or "North side" commuter rail. Beware of the "T"'s website "trip planner". It can come up with some really bizarre routings sometimes!
Answer 3 :
Neither of the two previous Answerers tell you that there are also the Purple Lines, which is the commuter rail system. It is the 4th most extensive in the USA after N.Y.C., Chicago and Philly. And of course there is also the bus system. You can get a pass for only the bus system, or the bus and subway plus the silver line; any Purple Line pass allows you to ride the buses and subways also. .
Answer 4 :
Well, the "lines" are different subway routes Red: longest line. services Cambridge and South Boston, as well as downtown Green: services Boston areas on the Charles River, but extends 20 miles West of Boston Blue: services airport and surrounding areas, East of Boston, but enters the city and ends downtown. Orange: services areas NE of Boston, north end, downtown/chinatown, Roxbury.
Answer 5 :
Red line goes south of the city Orange goes North to South from Malden to South of the city Blue connects the airport, waterfront and ends in Revere along the shore. Green Line has separate lines A-E that split off the green line goes through back bay and towards roxbury others like the B-line go to BC which is west in Chesnut Hill. Purple line connects all other points as far west as worcester, north as gloucester, and south as the cape. Passes start at $59/ month but i think that doesn't include the purple which is the commuter rail. Individual rides are 1.70 and will probaply go up it is around 5 for the commuter rail depending on the zone
Answer 6 :
agreed with the above answers but nobodys mentioned the silver line... i think it goes around the airport but i dont have to use that one much. Basically find a T station, the ones that say INBOUND go towards boston, the ones that say OUTBOUND go out... look at the maps in the station and if you dont have to make a transfer look for the last stop on that train and board the train that says to (whatever stop it was). If you need any help just ask anybody and im sure theyd be happy to help!! good luck in boston

Mabey your SIM card is not activated.
Answer 2 :
call *228 and then press one and then 2 and then it will update your service capabilities
Answer 3 :
maybe its because they have a different brand of verizon phone
Answer 4 :
It's the kinda phone you use. Your parents have powerfull phone but you don't. try changing the phone.
Answer 5 :
Dial *228 & press 2, this will update your service. If that doesn't work, it could be a problem with your phones attena. I had the same issue with my phone, and they said its probably that my attena got fried(?) LoL...ANYways if you are still within a year of purchasing that phone, they will replace it with a new one, no charge.

About how old do I have to be to work at Boston Market in Meriden

How old do I have to be to work at Boston Market in Meriden?
So, I'm 15 going on 16 in May . And I was just curious as to how old I had to be to work at Boston Market . And if I were to apply now would there be a slim chance i'd get hired ?

Answer 1 :
Legally 16. But possibly 17 would be most appropriate I'm guessing they must be hiring.... I remember seeing some hiring signs the last time I bought a chicken salad
Answer 2 :
In May when your 16 you can work at Boston Market. But if you don't know, you can't just walk in a store and say "Hey, I want to work here". They have to be willing to hire and then you will have to go through an interview like you did for highschool, then you will be able to work if your accepted.

Answer 1 :
Legal Seafood is best waitressing job in boston. The place is tremendously busy as both a local favorite and a must see tourist stop so the potential of making a lot of money is there. You must be good in a rushing crowd.
Answer 2 :
I worked at Stephanie's On Newbury for a couple summers (well year round) and it is an AWESOME place to be in the summer. Always packed and they have a huge patio which is prime people watching, so it s a major hot spot. The wait to sit outside can get to over two hours and people will wait. The menu is a bit pricier, which is good for a server, b/c you make more money. And there is an automatic gratuity on all patio tables, so you are guaranteed to make some cash. Its a fun place to work and it has a more upscale clientele than Legal Seafood, which is filled with tourists all the time that dont have a clue.
Answer 3 :
I would agree that a place like Stephanies would be better than Legal Seafood. Or check out the other places on Newbury Street. A good option would be to work in a pub, too. Shorter shifts with more money b/c of the drinks being served. Stay away from tourist traps where people don't understand the rules about tipping. Or go out of Boston to Martha's Vinyard or Cape Cod.

Try any 7/11 store
Answer 2 :
Don't know what language you speak, but I would see if you can get a job interpreting. Many government jobs and courts need interpreters. Call the courts and see if they are in need or if they can refer you to the agencies where they get their interpreters from.
Answer 3 :
everywhere. it's not like native Bostonians speak English.
Answer 4 :
First off, I would like to commend you on TRYING to learn the language. Some people who are actually born here don't make that much of an effort. Check with your career planning department in your school. They may have companies they work with who can use employees who english isn't that great. Also maybe you can work as a busboy somewhere. You will be around Americans but you don't really interact enough to need to speak it well. Good Luck

About is there a prepaid cellular plan that can work in Boston and in Ottawa Canada

Is there a prepaid cellular plan that can work in Boston and in Ottawa Canada?
Is there a prepaid cellular plan that can work in Boston and in Ottawa Canada? I have purchased a Cingular pay as you go but it doesnt work at all. I cant even set up voice mail. Any one got an idea of what cellphone service i can get that i can use with a boston # while in canada?
Cell Phones & Plans - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yea nextel works every wear i dont have a prepaid plan but i know that they still have one
Answer 2 :
You need to contact Cingular and find out why it is not working. "Did you buy your phone card?" That has to be purchased first in order for your phone to work. You will have to put in codes, if its a prepaid phone. Unless they bill you.. Try that first before you go out and buy another one. Good Luck!
Answer 3 :
you should do as Sue said first, and before you get Nextel, make sure that the prepaid service they offer (Boost) will work there. Although Nextel works there, it's not Nextel's system that you're actually using, it's a company they have a deal with.
